Bloomington, Indiana Estate Planning Lawyer

At the Like Law Group LLC we can assist you in planning for your life and helping you clarify your vision for the future. We understand the importance of estate planning in your life and the lives of your loved ones. By providing personal and in-depth counseling to you and your family and other loved ones, we can help you achieve your goals and objectives while minimizing taxes and maintaining maximum flexibility.

Many people may describe an estate plan as a list of documents. However, in choosing an attorney you are not just “buying paper.” When you retain an estate planning attorney, you are choosing the counselor who will craft a plan that your family must live with after you are gone; you are choosing the advisor upon whom your loved ones will depend at their most difficult times; and you are creating a relationship with your attorney that should last for life.

We believe education is the key to a well-designed estate plan. The first step is for you to educate us. We want to find out about you, your family, your loved ones, and charitable causes you care about. During this first step we will spend the time necessary to learn about your goals, hopes and dreams, as well as your fears and concerns. The second step is for us to educate you. We will educate you on the options to structure your estate plan, minimize taxes, plan for your own incapacity and protect your family and loved ones. Once we fully understand you, and you have a firm grasp on your options, we can work together to truly design an estate plan that is just right for you and for your family. While the planning we do for you will almost always include some combination of wills, trusts, or business entities, your plan will be a unique expression of your goals and objectives. We don’t have “cookie cutter” or “one size fits all” solutions. Such planning, or “so called” solutions, won’t work.

Although each client’s plan is unique, your plan might include a will, revocable living trust, and irrevocable trusts that are custom tailored for you and your family. In order to plan for disability your plan might include the use of powers of attorney, living wills, medical powers of attorney and appointments of health care representatives.

Some of our clients have children, or other loved ones, with special needs. If your family does also, we can counsel you on the options to protect that loved one which might involve the use of special needs trusts (sometimes referred to as supplemental needs trusts).

You may also have additional lifetime planning and financial goals such as planning for a child’s, or a grandchild’s, college expenses, or preserving family wealth or businesses. Your plan may utilize a family limited partnership, limited liability company, or corporate restructuring techniques to achieve your family wealth preservation goals.

Finally, many clients are concerned about protecting their loved ones’ inheritance. With lawsuits on the rise, personal bankruptcies a possibility, and almost one in every two marriages ending in divorce, asset protection and creditor protection could be incredibly valuable to your loved ones. We can counsel you on the options to protect your loved ones’ inheritance while maintaining maximum flexibility within your plan.
